Data History
- 1979-80 onward — scores, standings, box scores, player stats, and shooting percentages. This also includes the box-score advanced stats— BPM, VORP, Win Shares, PER, True Shooting, Usage — because those are computed from box-score numbers, not tracking. So a player’s BPM in 1985 is a real figure, not a gap.
- 1990-91 onward — salary and payroll data.
- 1996-97 onward — anything that needs possession tracking: shot locations (shot charts, shot quality), and the on-court ratings (offensive / defensive / net rating). These didn’t exist before the NBA started tracking possessions and lineups.
- 2007-08 onward — real on-court two-man lineup net ratings (the modern tier of the On-Court Chemistry chart; older seasons use a box-score estimate instead).
- 2013-14 onward — hustle and player-tracking stats: deflections, contested shots, and the defensive-matchup tables.
