Getting Started

A quick tour of the site before you dig into the charts.

Metric Hoops is an NBA analytics platform: live scores and game predictions, deep team and player statistics, salary and roster data, original research, two basketball games, and interactive charts throughout, with history going back to the 1979-80 season.

The main tabs

Home

Today’s games with live scores and the model’s prediction for each one. Below that: the current league leaders, players trending up right now, and a daily finding pulled straight from the data.

Games

Two views, both reachable from anywhere.

  • Predictions — the model’s public track record and every past prediction, graded.
  • Schedule — every game by date, past and upcoming.

Clicking any game opens its own page: win probability, how the model compares to the betting market, score momentum, the injury report, and the full box score.

Teams

The team directory for any season back to 1979-80, head-to-head comparisons between any two teams, and league-wide charts for seeing where a team sits against the field.

Standings

Records, seeding, and playoff position, plus the Playoffs bracket with a page for each series. Individual team pages live here too — roster, payroll, game log, and the team’s own charts.

Players

Leaderboards, a page for every player, side-by-side comparisons, and specialty charts like shooting archetypes and defensive identities. Two more views sit alongside:

  • Injuries — the current league-wide injury report.
  • Transactions — trades, signings, waivers, draft, and contract moves.

Play

Two basketball games built on the same data as the rest of the site.

  • Guess the Player — identify a player from their shot chart and a few clues. Three guesses, hints you can unlock as you go, and a Daily puzzle everyone gets the same version of, or Endless practice on random players.
  • Starting Five— draft a five under a salary cap and see it play a historic team. You draw a random team-season, pick one player from it, and can redraw for a fee; old salaries are adjusted to today’s cap, and redraw fees come out of the same budget as the signings.
